Gorgeous cocktails in ghoulish green and bloody punch are sure to add an element of ‘Ew!’ to your Halloween party.
“The great thing about any drink recipe is that you can make it all your own,” says
Bonnie Baumann of Simply Servers. “You don’t have to call your signature drink by its given mixology name, you can rename it to fit your party's occasion or theme. For example, the Green-Tini can easily become ‘The Grave Digger’ or an Appletini can be called ‘Bobbing for Apples’. Mix clear honey or light corn syrup with red food coloring to give your glasses a ‘bloody’ rim.
Green-Tini
2 oz premium vodka
1½ oz melon liquor
** Chill your martini glass. Fill your mixing tin/martini shaker with ice. Add ingredients and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into glass and enjoy. Recipe provided by Simply Servers.
Appletini
2 oz premium vodka
1 oz Schnapps Sour Apple Pucker
** Chill your martini glass. Fill your mixing tin/martini shaker with ice. Add ingredients and shake vigorously for 10 seconds. Strain into glass and enjoy. Recipe provided by Simply Servers.
Bloody Punch with Icy Dead Hand
Latex glove, non-powdered
Red food coloring
4 parts fruit punch
1 part lemon-lime soda
Ice cream or sorbet
**Use the latex glove to make a hand ice mold at least one day before the party. Fill the clean, non-powdered glove with water, securing the opening with string or a rubber band. Freeze overnight. Carefully cut the glove away and add red food coloring for effect. For the bloody punch, simply combine the fruit punch, soda, and sorbet as guests arrive, and serve with a ladle.
When selecting a signature drink for your event, Baumann suggests keeping it simple by limiting the ingredients and experimenting with any garnishes in advance. “Creating a certain effect with garnishes and presentation is much trickier than you might think, especially if you have never made it or are using different techniques like the ‘dripping blood’ rim shown in the photos,” Baumann says.
If you are using a bartender for your event, provide your signature drink recipes in advance to ensure they can combine their experience with your expectations. “Don’t assume that your bartender automatically knows how to make a drink with a funny name,” Baumann says. “Many drink names and recipes are regional and might be made one way in the south, and a slightly different way on the east coast.” When in doubt, contact a professional bartending service for suggestions to make sure your signature cocktail is the talk of the party.
