Help guests burn off some of those candy calories with these classic party-games-gone-ghastly for your Halloween event!
Rooting for Worms
More disgusting – and messier- than traditional bobbing for apples, this no-hands-allowed competition involves taking a face plunge into a bowl of whipped cream in search of hidden gummy worms.
Assemble a bowl for each contestant, placing several gummy worms at the bottom of the bowl and topping with whipped cream (the other parents will thank you for using the no-sugar variety). The contestant to ‘unearth’ the largest number of worms wins!
Pumpkin Bowling
Substituting small gourds for bowling balls adds an element of surprise to this game, as the irregularly shaped pumpkins tend to go in just about any direction - except where aimed!
Spray paint empty 2-liter soda bottles white; when dried, draw eyes and mouths on the bottles with a black marker to create ‘ghost’ bowling pins. Add a cup of sand or pebbles to each bottle so they will stand without falling over. Line up your ghost pins to let your little ones try for a strike!
Wrap the Mummy
Divide participants into groups of three to five. Select one member of each group to be the mummy. Other group members must then use several roles of toilet paper to wrap the mummy from toe to head, leaving the eyes, nose, and mouth uncovered. The first group to use all the rolls of toilet paper wins.
Candy Corn Catch
Divide participants into teams of two and hand out trick-or-treat bowls and candy corns. Create two parallel lines with teammates standing directly across from each other. One team member must toss candy corns and the other member must catch them in their container. When time is up, the team with the most candy corns in their ‘cauldron’ wins!
Ghost Butler
Blow up several balloons and set up a simple obstacle course indoors. Divide participants into two or three teams. Taking turns, each team member must balance a balloon on a tray while walking it through the obstacle course and back to their team; if the balloon glides off of the tray, the team member must begin again. The first team to have all members complete the obstacle course wins!
Prizes don’t need to be expensive. Wrap homemade popcorn balls in Halloween cellophane or visit your local dollar store to pick up some Halloween themed goodies or retro prizes like Chinese jump ropes and woven finger cuffs.
